Photo Reference FAQ
Use this checklist to help provide the best photo reference for your portrait commission
Make sure your photo is in focus (not blurry)
Take your photo in good natural light - ideally, the light should be coming from the side (rather than from the front or from behind)
When you take the photo, step back a little and take it from the subject’s eye level. (Too close, and the features may look distorted)
Frame the subject well - at least head and shoulders in frame fully
Facing the camera or in 3/4 view, although sometimes a subject in profile can be quite striking.
